Our very own Chief Financial Officer Brenda Liggett is being honoured for excellence in the public sector by the Association of Women in Finance’s PEAK awards, to be handed out at a ceremony on May 10.
The award is given to a woman who works in finance in the public sector and who:
- demonstrates a high and quantifiable contribution to her institution or industry;
- guides, supports and encourages the promotion of women; and
- is actively involved in her professional or personal community.
Brenda currently provides leadership and oversight for strategic financial planning, budgeting and financial services across Fraser Health and started her health care career as a pharmacy technician at Surrey Memorial Hospital. She earned her accounting designation while working and raising her four children, and in her 27 years in finance at Fraser Health, worked her way up from general ledger clerk to chief financial officer while also earning her Certified Management Accountant letters and a Master’s degree.
Her leadership and innovative thinking has been critical over the past few years to maintain a focus on patient-centred care while bringing Fraser Health to financial balance and developing a financial plan to shift focus from acute to community care.
Brenda has tirelessly championed women in finance at Fraser Health since achieving a management role, and contributes every day to the success of her team, her colleagues and the patients whose outcomes are improved because the health care services we provide are well planned, high quality, resourced and budgeted. I am pleased that she has been acknowledged in this way and congratulate her on behalf of us all.
