Glen Garrick, sustainability manager for Fraser Health, was recently presented the Canada’s Clean50 award from the Delta Management Group.

Glen Garrick, sustainability manager, was recently presented Canada’s Clean 50 award from the Delta Management Group. The Clean50 award annually offers recognition to Canada’s national leaders in sustainability across all sectors.

In 2007, Glen Garrick collaborated with key health care stakeholders to launch the GreenCare initiative with the goal of getting health care professionals and the overall health care system to realize the connection between human and environmental health and take steps to reduce health care’s negative environmental impact.

Working with the Fraser Health Energy and Environmental Sustainability (EES) team, Glen states, “The EES team is working hard to change mindsets and processes in health care to ensure Fraser Health and the other lower mainland health care organizations are more responsible in reducing their negative impact on the environment. A great side benefit is that we are reducing costs in areas like energy and water, too.”

Fraser Health has been carbon neutral since 2010 according to the Provincial Climate Action Secretariat’s standards.

Of the award, Glen stated, “It’s always fantastic to have your work recognized; however, this award wouldn’t be possible without the work of our incredibly dedicated and talented team. Green+Leaders, recycling champions, facilities managers, and many others are all working hard to make meaningful decisions that ultimately reduce our environmental impact.”
