TEC4Home is a randomized control trial research project for patients with heart failure, designed to evaluate the effectiveness of Home Health Monitoring (HHM) technology.

What is TEC4Home?

TEC4Home is a randomized control trial research project for patients with heart failure, designed to evaluate the effectiveness of Home Health Monitoring (HHM) technology to support the safety and quality of care during a patient’s transition from hospital to home. Nine hundred patients will be recruited across 19 hospital sites within Interior Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, Providence Health Care and Fraser Health. The study will recruit participants who present with heart failure as their primary diagnosis in the Emergency Departments at the 19 sites, and will include both patients who are discharged directly from the Emergency Department and those who are admitted into the hospital as inpatients.

Fraser Health sites participating in the study include the following hospitals: Mission Memorial, Surrey Memorial, Abbotsford Regional, Langley Memorial, Peace Arch, Delta and Burnaby.

The control phase of the project has begun recruiting patient participants on a site-by-site basis starting with Surrey Memorial Hospital on August 6, 2018. Patients recruited during this phase are part of the control cohort, meaning they will not receive the Home Health Monitoring technology but will be followed by researchers as they continue with their usual care.

The intervention phase is scheduled to begin December 3, 2018. During this phase, the study will recruit patients at some of the above Fraser Health sites who will receive the clinical intervention – the Home Health Monitoring technology.

How is staff involved?

In preparation for the start of patient recruitment, the TEC4Home project team has been actively meeting with site and physician leadership informing them about the trial and how they will be able to participate in and support this study. If you are a clinical staff member at one of the participating sites, you may notice posters, communication materials, and on-site project team members. In some clinical areas, staff members will be invited to help recruitment for the study by identifying eligible patient participants.
