Thanks to the outstanding efforts of our Informatics team and clinical service areas that were impacted, the recent Meditech system upgrade was a success that will help us provide better information and services for our patients.
I want to take a moment to recognize the outstanding efforts of our Informatics team with the success of the recent Meditech system upgrade. I also want to acknowledge the many clinical service areas that were impacted by this Meditech system planned downtime during the upgrade process. The extra work to implement downtime procedures and staffing was critical for resuming our day-to-day services to care for patients and residents across Fraser Health.
It is quite an extraordinary effort to update a system used across the region by 33,752 individual users and 13,773 desktops computers. After several months of planning and a lot of diligent communication, the task was successfully completed in about six hours on the morning of January 20.
I am grateful to the Informatics team for completing this substantial upgrade to our health care information system with minimal impact to our staff and patients. Like many of our support services, much of what they do is unseen. These upgrades are moving us towards the advanced clinical system functionality that helps us to provide better information and services for our patients right across the system.
