Safety Data Sheets
Written by Deanne Gilmour, Representative, Prevention, Workplace Health

Do you know how to locate the Safety Data Sheet for chemicals or products in your workplace? Go to http://sds.phsa.ca.

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Canada’s national hazard communication standard, has been updated from WHMIS 1988 to WHMIS 2015 and incorporates the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).

As an employee it is your responsibility to know where to find the updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for any chemicals or products in your workplace. The new URL for the WHMIS SDS database is http://sds.phsa.ca. This link is available from any computer with web access.

You can find the database by clicking on Safety and Prevention under the Workplace Health Category on FH Pulse. You will find the database under “Other Web Resources” on the right hand side of the page. Find detailed instructions.

Reminder: If you have any department specific links to the SDS database, please update them and ensure that you update favourites or bookmarks.
