High five

This week's high fives go to our amazing people at Abbotsford Regional Hospital, New Westminster iConnect Health Centre, Peace Arch Hospital and Royal Columbian Hospital.

For Abbotsford Regional Hospital

I just wanted to write and thank the pharmacy team at Abbotsford hospital for the care they provided to my father-in-law. He came in after having a heart attack at home. He has a significant medical history including blood dyscrasias, cancer, spinal stenosis, and dementia which makes his care complex and his medication regimen potentially more problematic to navigate as new medications are started. My mother-in-law was concerned regarding his existing medications and the new medications that he would be started on to stabilize his cardiac function.

The pharmacy team, including the resident (Judy?) and her preceptor Gordon Klammer were excellent and provided clear and insightful advice regarding the medications. They were able to review the therapy and ensure that he was on optimized pharmacotherapy. They also provided the answers that the family needed to feel confident regarding the plan going forward. I am a hospital pharmacist in Ontario and usually will get any follow up questions regarding pharmacotherapy. It was impressive that my mother-in-law had no questions for me in follow up and was confident in the plan going forward.

As a hospital pharmacist I was impressed with the team and the care they provided. It made a significant difference in the outcomes for my father-in-law and provided confidence for the family in being able to care for the entire patient and his needs.

Please extend my sincere thanks to the team for their dedication and professional approach to patient care.

For New Westminster iConnect Health Centre

Kudos to Paulina, Karen and Dalia for providing a great program at iConnect Health Centre.

The program was very beneficial for me. I’ve increased my respiratory and physical strength and overall well-being. I feel as though I’m on the right path to a healthier me. Thanks.

For Peace Arch Hospital

I would like to send out a positive message regarding two wonderful people in the MRI department at Peace Arch Hospital.

My appointment was scheduled for October 29. When we arrived, we were greeted with a friendly smile from Bobbie! What a relief, as I was nervous about my appointment. She was not only friendly but helpful, respectful and informative. The MRI tech, Shaun, was lovely. So kind and caring. He even explained everything to me so I wasn’t as anxious as when I first arrived!

I truly believe that caregivers need to be recognized when they exceed expectations in their field. As patients, we are all a little worried about what will take place during a test, so having kind friendly people there is amazing. Thank you Bobbie and Shaun!

For Royal Columbian Hospital

Our family welcomed our first child on October 20 at Royal Columbian Hospital.

I consider myself very fortunate that my nurse, Sheridan, came on shift and was assigned to my care before I started active labour. [She] was so calm and supportive while I worried about back labour and having to have an assisted birth… [she] could see my anxiety spike and did everything in her power to reassure me that the baby was doing fine and that I was doing a great job pushing.

Our daughter was delivered safely and my husband and I felt so much more confident as a result of Sheridan’s incredibly competent and compassionate care.  All of the staff at the Royal Columbian were wonderful and supportive – the rooms were clean, every single staff member from doctors to nurses to support staff were helpful – and I wanted to acknowledge the special efforts of Sheridan.

Please convey our utmost gratitude to her.
